The article is worth reading as I&#8217;m posting here only excerpts without any comments and descriptions.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">1.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Designing for usability: key principles and what designers think.<\/span>   Gould, J. D. and Lewis, C. (1985) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.research.ibm.com\/compsci\/spotlight\/hci\/p300-gould.pdf\">View Paper <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">[pdf]<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Two honorable mentions for pioneering work include:<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-left: 40px;\">Al-Awar, J., Chapanis, A., and Ford, R.&nbsp; (1981).&nbsp; <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Tutorials for the first-time computer user.<\/span>&nbsp;<br \/>\n IEEE Transactions on Professional Communication, 24, 30-37. This is one<br \/>\n of the first descriptions of formative usability testing. Prior to this<br \/>\n paper most user testing efforts were more summative (benchmark<br \/>\ntesting).<\/div>\n<p> <\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-left: 40px;\">Shackel, B.&nbsp; (1990).&nbsp; <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Human factors and usability.&nbsp;<\/span><br \/>\n In J. Preece and L. Keller (Eds.), \/Human-Computer Interaction,<br \/>\nSelected Readings\/ (pp. 27-41).&nbsp; This paper defined usability as a<br \/>\nfunction of efficiency, effectiveness &amp; satisfaction (the ISO 9241<br \/>\npt 11 standard). Despite many proposed extensions, we still think of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.measuringusability.com\/blog\/usability-exist.php\">usability in terms of these three aspects<\/a>.<\/div>\n<p> <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">2.
