* email-email shared recipient\/sender<\/p>\n

* file-file – shared directory<\/p>\n

* url-url – shared category\/tag in bookmarks<\/p>\n

* email-file – attachment<\/p>\n

* email-url – url in the email body<\/p>\n

* file-url – url in the document text<\/p>\n

(above ’email’ means email *<\/span>message*<\/span><\/strong>)<\/p>\n

Sem desktop people pick up other stuff from content or metadata<\/p>\n

also implicit time connections "write email whilst editing file"<\/p>\n

Some link data is available to the the system ‘for free’
\n(automatically generated) – e.g. attachment to email, sender, time
\nconnections (but may be random)<\/p>\n

some the user needs to generate (manual) – categories, tags<\/p>\n

(b) BUILDING THINGS

Although the web tags stuff would be sexy app, I was thinking very
\nmuch what I know I could build easily myself – desktop stuff always
\nseems harder!  In the long term the distinction is probably breaking
\ndown, but not for a long time yet.<\/p>\n

Idea – you focus on the desktop, but we work out what protocols,
\nAPIs, interaction methods are needed to link the two.<\/p>\n

For example, I’ve written before about the need for ‘desktop URIs’
\nto
\nmore easily enable desktop apps to cross-link to each other an to the
\nweb:

If you do desktop things that are ‘web open’ then (given I think it
\nis so easy!) I can always add some sort of web link at soem stage.<\/p>\n
