{"id":346,"date":"2014-09-06T22:40:00","date_gmt":"2014-09-06T22:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pim.famnit.upr.si\/wp\/?p=346"},"modified":"2021-11-17T11:17:52","modified_gmt":"2021-11-17T11:17:52","slug":"download-organizer-an-app-for-adding-organisation-to-dump-collections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pim.famnit.upr.si\/wp\/?p=346","title":{"rendered":"Download Organizer: an app for adding organisation to dump collections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have<strong> three basic forms of information collections<\/strong>:&nbsp; <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> <strong>Project collections<\/strong>: formed to support work on a project, contain project<br \/>\nrelated files of diverse file formats organised in elaborated organizations [1, p 139].\n<\/li>\n<li> <strong>Reference collections<\/strong>: include information items of usually one format, have<br \/>\na fairly flat organizational structure and are organised by metadata or key<br \/>\n(time, name, topic) [1, p 139] (e.g. a collection of academic literature, a collection of music files).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li> <strong>Dump collections<\/strong>: are formed of arbitrary information items and usually<br \/>\nconsist of information that cannot be classified in the above collections [2]. The placement is usually of a temporary nature and items from them<br \/>\nare sometimes deleted or renamed and moved to appropriate locations once their<br \/>\nrole is determined.But often they just remain untouched and forgotten.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Frequent <strong>dump collections are downloads folder and desktop folder<\/strong>. The <strong>downloads folder can be easily organised by e.g. creation time.<\/strong> But the <strong>Download Organiser<\/strong> (\u00a32.99) <strong>pushes things further<\/strong> as it can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>automatically organise downloads by websites<\/li>\n<li>organise based on user defined filters (file type, size, source)<\/li>\n<li>open, preview files and open a containing folder <\/li>\n<li>rename files from notifications when they are downloaded<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is an interesting idea on how to organise semi-automatically acquired files drawn form the considerate research on automatically organised email based on various criteria [3]. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"no_float\" src=\"https:\/\/pim.famnit.upr.si\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/DownloadOrganiser.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<ul> <\/ul>\n<\/p>\n<p>[1] W.
