The only <strong>drawback is the lack of the real estate<\/strong> for holding a high number of information items.<\/p>\n<p>At least this is what average users think. However, there are other more subtle drawbacks which are mostly related to how operating systems and other software treat this special folder.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pcworld.com\/article\/2110003\/the-pros-and-cons-mostly-cons-of-saving-files-to-the-desktop.html\">PCWorld writes that in Windows OS:<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>System restore deletes all files added to the Desktop from the restore point<\/strong> to the present time.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Many backup programs don&#8217;t backup Desktop<\/strong> by default.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"lifehacker.com\/5893054\/an-overly-cluttered-desktop-can-seriously-slow-down-your-mac--clean-it-up-for-a-noticeable-speed-boost\">If you think that OS X is better in this respect Lifehacker says that:<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The graphical system uses a lot of resources to show files on the Desktop <\/strong>and cluttered desktops slow down a whole machine. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Anyway, <strong>it&#8217;s spring cleaning time and computers should get a nice cleaning<\/strong> &#8211; including files on the Desktop.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>[1] Alison Kidd, <a href=\"http:\/\/dl.acm.org\/citation.cfm?id=260346\">The marks are on the knowledge worker<\/a>, Proceeding CHI &#8217;94 Conference Companion on Human Factors in Computing Systems, Page 212, 1994<\/p>\n<p><body \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During my studies I&#8217;ve seen clear Desktops, utterly cluttered ones and everything in between.
