The development of these tools was based on knowledge<br \/>\ndrawn from the fields of psychology, human\u2013computer interaction,<br \/>\ninformation retrieval, knowledge management and research in the PIM<br \/>\nfield. Different metaphors and ways of organizing were introduced.<br \/>\nHowever, the prevailing beliefs are that most of these prototypes were<br \/>\nnot extensively tested and that the radical design (not addressing<br \/>\nreal-world issues) and quick abandonment of prototypes prevented<br \/>\ntransfer to mainstream products. This paper looks at what has been<br \/>\ndeveloped and learnt, what has been transferred to mainstream<br \/>\napplications, discusses the possible reasons behind these trends and<br \/>\nchallenges some parts of the above-mentioned beliefs.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Finally out in the printed version of Interacting with Computers.
