{"id":163,"date":"2011-11-10T05:47:00","date_gmt":"2011-11-10T05:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pim.famnit.upr.si\/wp\/?p=163"},"modified":"2021-11-17T11:21:08","modified_gmt":"2021-11-17T11:21:08","slug":"text-editors-for-os-x-a-list-i-tried-so-far","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pim.famnit.upr.si\/wp\/?p=163","title":{"rendered":"Text editors for OS X &#8211; a list I tried so far"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s the list I tried (in no particular order) of native OS X editors:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"ctedit\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zend.com\/products\/studio\/\">Zend studio<\/a>: An PHP IDE<br \/><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"ctedit\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.barebones.com\/products\/textwrangler\/\">TextWrangler<\/a>: A small brother of BBedit web editor<br \/><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"ctedit\"><a href=\"http:\/\/macromates.com\/\">TextMate<\/a>: Very capable and nice editor (30 days trial)<br \/><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"ctedit\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.macupdate.com\/app\/mac\/33751\/fraise\">Fraise<\/a>: A Smultron&#8217;s open source fork (not active anymore); still available and has some bugs<br \/><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"ctedit\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.barebones.com\/products\/bbedit\/\">BBedit<\/a>: Focused on web developing<br \/><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"ctedit\"><a href=\"http:\/\/bluefish.openoffice.nl\/index.html\">Bluefish<\/a>: A nice cross platform open source editor<br \/><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"ctedit\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.peterborgapps.com\/smultron\/\">Smultron<\/a>: Used to be my editor of choice; I really like sidebar tabs<br \/><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"ctedit\"><a href=\"http:\/\/kodapp.com\/\">Kod<\/a>: I expected a lot from this but the development stopped a while ago (open source)<br \/><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"ctedit\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.panic.com\/coda\/\">Coda<\/a>: Also focusing on web development<br \/><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"ctedit\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.activestate.com\/komodo-edit\">Komodo Edit<\/a>: Another cross platform open source editor (and stripped down version of Komodo IDE)<br \/><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"ctedit\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sublimetext.com\/2\">Sublime Text 2<\/a>: Also cross platform and very capable<br \/><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"ctedit\"><a href=\"http:\/\/macrabbit.com\/espresso\/\">Espresso<\/a>: Aimed at web developers<br \/><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"ctedit\">I&#8217;m not going to explain what I liked and what I did not about these editors, because it&#8217;s based on my personal preferences. This wouldn&#8217;t be fare either. All these editors are really packed with features and capable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>If undecided, give them a try. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>EDIT (20.11.2011):<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A two more (as suggested by Karl). Although a bit different from the above<br \/>\nselection and to some a bit outdated (ask my students).
