Such us smelling phones, phones that change shape, strech, get charged by sunlight, self clean, have transparent haptic displays, &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>It is not sure where Nokia&#8217;s research is heading at the moment. MeeGo seams to be their research platform but the preferred operating system is still Windows 7? <a href=\"http:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2011\/02\/11\/nokia-meego-not-dead-still-shipping-this-year\/\">This is what they said in the middle of February<\/a>: <\/p>\n<p><em>&quot;Under the new strategy, MeeGo becomes an open-source, mobile operating<br \/>\nsystem project. MeeGo will place increased emphasis on longer-term<br \/>\nmarket exploration of next-generation devices, platforms and user<br \/>\nexperiences. Nokia still plans to ship a MeeGo-related product later<br \/>\nthis year.&quot;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And <a href=\"http:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2011\/02\/11\/nokia-qanda-reveals-more-symbian-and-meego-details-android-explor\/\">later<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>&quot;Nokia will &quot;substantially reduce&quot; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2011\/02\/03\/visualized-nokia-randd-spending-almost-3-times-its-peers\/\">R&amp;D expenditures<\/a> while increasing R&amp;D productivity moving forward &#8230; MeeGo will ship this year but &quot;not as part of<br \/>\nanother broad smarpthone platform strategy, but as an opportunity to<br \/>\nlearn.&quot; .. The MeeGo<br \/>\n team will &quot;change their focus into an exploration of future<br \/>\nplatforms, future devices, future user experiences.&quot; Trying to determine<br \/>\n the &quot;next disruption&quot; in smartphones.&quot;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Now it&#8217;s clear that MeeGo is dead (Symbian as well), and Nokia is moving to WP7 only world. Too many bad decisions such us rewriting the networking stack and QT rewrite and &#8230; it took too much time &#8230; but when it finally was ready to hit the market they switched to WP7. Let&#8217;s just hope that it will still evolve in the meantime and become used on some devices.
