Joke aside, voice recognition on the phones never worked for me. But apparently the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pcworld.com\/businesscenter\/article\/209680\/ditch_your_keyboard_with_windows_voice_commands.html%20\">Windows 7 voice recognition is way better of what we had so far<\/a>. And is usable to dictate text after some training.<\/p>\n<p>When I think about voice recognition, narrative interfaces come to mind. <strong>The Quill prototype,<\/strong> for example <a href=\"http:\/\/vimmi.inesc-id.pt\/~djvg\/research\/publications\/documents\/iui2008.pdf\">finds a document [PDF]<\/a> if you type in the story about it:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"no_float\" src=\"\/pim\/images\/tool3-quill.png\" width=\"550\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Another tool that comes to mind is <strong>Feldspar<\/strong>. Instead to typing the story, user <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cs.cmu.edu\/~dchau\/feldspar\/feldspar-chi08.pdf\">incrementally specifies associations [PDF]<\/a> about the searched-for information. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"no_float\" src=\"\/pim\/images\/tool6-feldspar.png\" width=\"550\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>It would be nice to see how such interfaces would work with a good voice recognition. In the mean while, we cam dream about the possible future to be able to talk to computers like in <a href=\"\/blog\/index.php?\/archives\/133-Starfire-a-Suns-1994-vision-of-PIM-and-HCI-in-2004.html\">Sun&#8217;s Starfire<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You know it from your phone: tell a name, and I&#8217;ll call that person for you.
